About

I’m anna van kitti, an artist working across different media and formats. A lot of my recent work has been inspired by spending time in archives. They are full of counter-cultural imaginaries, reminding me the present order is not static or immutable. I hope to contribute to this lineage by bringing queer histories to life in new ways, through projects like Love Underground and Naked Souls

In 2022, I co-founded the collective holobiont. We co-create cultural artefacts, residencies and happenings – always aiming to redistribute cultural power outside of the mainstream. We have worked with musicians, cultural producers, rave organisers, anarchist archives and more.

I am currenly working on a comedic short film with my partner Roro, that queers the mythology of Cupid and grapples with alienation, differnt kinds of love and cosmic oneness. I’m also on a quest to figure out how to exist happily outside of the commercial art world – to be an ecstatic loser?! – and how to find, celebrate and work with other artists who feel similarly.

If you made it this far, you might still be thinking but what is an affect alien?? I found (& immediately loved) this term in feminist writer Sarah Ahmed‘s book Living a Feminist Life. They use it to describe people who don’t feel how they are supposed to feel or, to use Audre Lorde’s words, might refuse ‘supplied states of being’.

I believe in art as a way to cultivate rebellious affects, and in acting together to imagine alternatives to a consensus reality that keeps us alienated from ourselves, each other and the living world.
